Exercise

Benefits of exercise

Exercise burns calories, which enables the body to stay at a stable and healthy weight without meaning you have to eat less.

Exercise is vital for maintaining the effective functioning of the body’s muscles and joints and can also be a great boost for your psychological health and your social life.

Exercise has been repeatedly proven to reduce the likelihood of suffering from diseases such as heart disease and diabetes as well as mental health problems including anxiety and depression.

Exercise can also be a great way to meet new people.

Weekly exercise

It is recommended that you do at least 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise 3 times each week; this will tone the muscles and keep the joints loose; this need not be restricted to running and may include swimming, cycling, rowing, aerobics classes, martial arts, gymnastics, football and tennis to name just a few.

Losing weight by doing exercise

If you are looking to lose weight you should start exercising gradually in order to build up your fitness levels; you may wish to join a gym or employ a personal trainer to help you do this.

Once you have reached an acceptable standard of fitness you will find you are able to manage longer periods of exercise and train more effectively; all over body workouts will improve your muscle tone as well as helping you to shed the pounds.

If you feel self-conscious about exercising in front of others, there is a vast range of workouts available on DVD, which you can do in the privacy of your own home.

You may also benefit from going to group sessions, such as aerobics or yoga, with friends; this will help you to feel at ease and make it more fun.
